Boston Police Officer Justin Barrett allegedly sent out a mass e-mail calling Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates a "jungle monkey." Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis learned of the e-mail on Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Barrett had to turn over his gun and badge and was placed on administrative leave. Barrett will be subject to a termination hearing.
